The US gambling industry has become a “highway without speed limits”, according to a top state regulator, as the nationwide gambling boom continues at pace.

Jordan Maynard, chair of the Massachusetts gaming commission, urged lawmakers in Washington to consider nationwide rules on advertising by betting firms. Operators have spent years lobbying against a federal crackdown.

Nationwide exclusion lists, blocking gamblers who encounter problems like addiction from placing a bet anywhere in the country, are also “ripe for a federal conversation”, Maynard said in an interview with the Guardian.

It’s like all these guards rails older generations placed on my generation as a kid were removed and we’re now witness why they were there.

It’s like those lines drawn on the side of hills in Japan that say “do not build below this line” but then a bunch of people built there.

    Laughs in Australian gambling.

Australians spend more per capita than Americans on gambling. The last study I saw it was a nice linear per country graph showing gradual increases all the way to America in the #2 spot at $450 per capita spent.

Australians were at $2200 per capita. Was a big jump.

    USD economy is such cancer.

Americans traded their higher education system for this, among other things. This useless industry chokes public bandwidth with their constant advertisements and they produce less than nothing of value, pure leachdom. Fucking sad.
